1928 Tula Ex Dragoon

Postby AssassinBean » Thu Feb 20, 2014 1:25 pm

I picked up an ex dragoon from Big 5 the other day. This thing is in fantastic condition. I'm tempted to say that it's got darn near 100% of its bluing. Still getting the cosmoline off so I only have a pic of the arsenal markings so far. I also can't find a [/] stamp on the stock so I want to say that it's original since being converted to an M91/30. Not sure though. Any light that you can shed on this rifle would be greatly appreciated.

It's got a '2' stamped onto the stock right in front of the top buttplate screw. I've read that this is a Russian refurb mark, but wasn't sure if it was from updating it to a 91/30 or from a later refurb.

Here's some more pictures of the stock. Pic quality is not that great. Just used my phone.

This pic is a bit on the dark side, but shows the overall condition of the stock.

These two pics show the color pretty accurately. Really liking the dark color of this stock.

Only a couple minor scrapes on it. Nothing too drastic.

There is something weird going on with inletting for the action. I'll post a few pics of that later.

Here's a couple pics of what I was talking about:

It looks like someone chiseled out some extra room some time after the stock was made. It's definitely not anything recent, but due to the coloring it wasn't at the same time as the rest of the woodworking. I thought that Dragoons were the same specs as the newer 91/30s so why would they have needed to widen the space for the action? Anyone seen this before?

Finally got the action cleaned up. Easily 98% bluing. Few small scrapes, but other than that it's in great condition.
