I regularly shoot coyotes with my 43 Izzy ex sniper... Does a wonderful job at dropping them... not so much of a pelt saver round, but boy does she do the stopping job quite well!
Myself and two buddies all had fun sporterizing and modding one of our MN's just for dropping song dogs. Thought we had a blast each doing em' a bit different and helping each other out with gear and mods. But boy did I get a grin the first one I dropped.
The Mosin really is one of my favorite rifles and its great to take them out in the field and use them to hunt. Such a great reliable simple but powerful firearm... doesnt get much better.
Next fall I may retire the .22 and take up mosin squirrel hunting... if my calculations are correct I may not need even taking the skinning knife...
